History #

Human Expansion #

The invention of faster than light travel gave humanity the ability to colonize the harsh and barren planets of the galaxy. Spreading outward from their home of Terra Prime they built outposts, colonies, and mining facilities providing a seemingly infinite supply of resources and industry for the corporations and governments of the planet. With the privitization and commercialization of space travel, many of the space faring industries became organized into large trade conglomerates of immense wealth and influence.
However, as they spread further across the galaxy it became increasingly difficult to maintain oversight of farflung colonies and mining operations. This resulted in the governments of the world ceding the greater part of their power over to the conglomerates to maintain control. Eventually the two became so intertwined that the desires and goals of the one rarely differed from the other.

Though some objected to the rise of these corporate states the truth remains that humanity entered, what is considered by many, a golden era of expansion and exploration. The history of warfare and conflict waged over the scant resources of Terra Prime were all but forgotten. Disagreements occasionally sparked between trade groups, but there was no lack of room for the conglomerates to operate and true conflict had become a rarity. Never in this time did humanity encounter any other beings that would threaten their claim to the galaxy and it seemed this age would last indefinitely.

First Contact #

The golden era soon begins to collapse when ships start getting attacked by unknown alien lifeforms. Even increasing security on transports has minimum effect, as the alien life forms are very powerful and manifest some form of self healing properties.

Some time later, an injured alien lifeform is captured and proper research is started. It’s discovered that they have numerous special attributes.

• They communicate mentally using broad spectrum radio waves.
• Their self healing abilities and immense strength are connected to these signals.
• Their brains as a whole seems to function semi-externally, using these waves.

War Begins #

As humans begin to start including radio signal jammers in their defenses, the alien lifeforms seem to recognize humans as a real opponent. They begin to increase their numbers. They start organizing and arranging their attacks. War unfolds.

To better equip mankind for this threat, the governments of Earth form a new military to operate against the alien lifeforms. The United Terran Navy is formed.

Starfire Disruptors #

The U.T.N. begins developing better technology to defend against and attack the alein lifeforms. The Starfire Disruptor is invented. These devices do more than just jam the radio waves aliens use, they broadcast carefully calibrated signals that attack them.

The effect removes the aliens self healing abilities. It prevents them from communicating remotely. And it greatly weakens their mental state.

As long as a ship has a functioning Starfire Disrupter, it can easily be defended by a small security team. With these devices, the war is effectively over, and the U.T.N. turns into more of a police force.

The Tide Turns #

After a ship experienced technical failure and it’s Starfire Disrupter was brought offline, it experienced a violent attack and aliens recovered the device.

Soon thereafter, the aliens launched a massive attack close to home on mars. They modified the captured Starfire Disruptor to send conflicting signals which disabled all other disruptors in range.

Though humans were able to overcome the onslaught, the colony was destroyed and millions were left dead.

Starfire Protocol #

After the attack, the U.T.N. decides that Starfire Disruptors should be protected at all costs, but are still needed for large vessels to safely travel through space.

The U.T.N. enacts the Starfire Protocol, deciding that they should form a spacial response force to prevent disruptors from falling into enemy hands. The Special Response and Rescue Force is formed.

Though publically the S.R.R.F. is annouced as a rescue team to save survivors on ships facing critical emergencies, their main purpose is to recover, reactivate, or destroy the Starfire Disruptor before aliens can recover it.

Timeline #

2117 - Mankind invents faster than light travel and begins to expand into the galaxy.

2134 - Mankind makes contact with powerful and violent alien species.

2135 - Mankind establishes “United Terran Navy” to defend against the species.

2137 - War between aliens and humans develops, with humans taking heavy losses.

2140 - Mankind develops the Starfire Disruptors that turns the tide of war in their favor.

2144 - Starfire Disruptors are produced for civil use and provided to defend material and passenger transports.

2144 - Aliens aquire disabled Starfire Disruptor from a damaged friegher and modify it, reversing the effects of other disruptors. They unleash a devastating attack on Earth killing millions.

2144 - United Terran Navy initiates the Starfire Protocol. Establishing a special Response Team to respond to vessels in emergencies, and prevent Starfire Disruptors from getting into alien hands.
